Determining Age Through Brain Scans
When researchers used MRI to scan the brains of 885 people between the age of 3 and 20; they found something surprising.
Findings: they found a direct correlation between a ‘developmental clock’ in the brain, and the age of the subject. Regardless of what differences the individuals posses, this biological signature is tightly controlled in it’s development.
Through the gathered data they were able to predict the age of patients with more than 92% accuracy. This is much more accurate than any other biological measure produced thus far. This tightly controlled signature may allow for detection of abnormality and further study into the causes of such things as autism and ADHD. (x)
